…and she stood still at the balcony of the 13th floor of her apartment facing the garden and overlooking its emptiness. It wasn’t just the emptiness of the garden but also the emptiness in her life as she stood all alone in that new place. The place which once seemed thrilling and happening to her for she had gone to start the new chapter of her life with an attractive job in hand now seemed like a grey hell.

It was around 3am and the breeze was biting cold. With shivering hands she kept trying his call again and again. Every time she heard the ring, she hoped that he would speak to her but instead he only disconnected it and at times left it unattended. She stood there feeling helpless.

The conversation with Kshitij kept echoing in her ears and her heartbeat almost stopped. He had just ended his relationship with her for she had called his parents fake and he could not take a word against them. Fake for not sending him over to Bangalore on her bday for which they had made a promise to her. It was because of their words and the promise made that she had decided on joining her job with one of the top MNC’s and in a hope that it would further strengthen their relationship and bring them even closer. Subsiding her dreams of being an IAS officer and opting to prepare for the UPSC, she had chosen a slightly easier option of going to Bangalore for it would make her independent and give her the reasons of introducing him to her family. But now, she could see the relationship slip away and this made her feel broken and drained off as if a leech  was feeding off her. She was blank-blank like a page.

The night now seemed like a deep dark sea. The harder she tried to make it to the shore, the more she kept drowning in her pain. Amidst the pain, she closed her eyes, felt the cool breeze blow past her and dived down the memory lane from where it had all started.

The sixth semester for her had just begun and so had the sports practices for the inter deemed university sports association (IDUSA) for the season. Being the sports joint secretary, she had responsibilities of making her badminton team excel this year and not just be satisfied with the runner’s up trophy like the previous one.

She was busy with the trials of a few shortlisted candidates for the girls section as within no time she had to finalise her team of four. Kshitij-the sports secretary of the college on the other hand was busy with the boys section for the same.

She winds up with the practices, rushes out of the sports complex for the girl’s hostel to just make in time. The timings of the girl’s hostel had been restricted to 8pm by the warden in charge and no girl was allowed to be seen out in the campus premises after that.

Being back from the badminton practices, she steps into her room, unties her shoe laces and throws them in a corner of the room and hops onto her bed.
